employers risk driving pain
Many employers believe that they need only to comply with road traffic law requirements to meet their responsibilities to drivers. However health and safety law applies to on-the-road activities as to all work activities. As such the risks should be managed within a health and safety management process.
High mileage drivers are at very high risk of back pain (6 times more likely to suffer than average mileage drivers) and 50% of drivers report back pain.
Employers who fail to consider such risks and do not offer appropriate guidance and support do so at their peril.
Whilst the nature of driving may be inherently problematical for the human musculo-skeletal system there are measures that drivers and employers can prudently take to minimise risks.
